Promoting a Climate for University Research, Odisha University Research and Innovation Incentivization Plan (OURIIP)  to provide incentive to selective scholars for research.

According to the policy guidelines, the state will provide research fellowships to subject-wise top-ranking National Eligibility Test (NET) qualifying students who have not been eligible for junior research fellowships (JRF), for doing research in state universities.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts NET for the science stream, while University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts this test for all other streams. NET qualified non-JRF students do not get incentive from these government organisations.

The state’s higher education department has come up with the plan to help bright NET qualified students who are permanent residents of Odisha.

“The period of fellowship will be limited to four years, extendable to another one year with the prior approval of the Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC),” said the council’s vice chairman Asoka Kumar Das.

An eligible candidate can get fellowship of Rs 15,000 per month with a contingency of Rs 25,000 per year for subjects involving laboratory work and Rs 15,000 for subjects without laboratory work. The number of fellowships in each subject is limited to five with two fellowships reserved for girl students. They will be given in 35 subjects.
